I just activated my fifth and final Points Accelerator of the year, so this is the perfect time to walk you through it. It is one of the easiest ways to squeeze more points out of the spending you are already doing, and a lot of Palladium holders never turn it on. Here is exactly what it is, how to use it in four steps, and what you actually earn.

What the Points Accelerator is

The Points Accelerator is a Bilt Palladium feature that adds one extra point per dollar on your everyday spending for a set window. Your Palladium normally earns 2x on everyday purchases, so with an Accelerator turned on that becomes 3x. Each one covers your next $5,000 of eligible purchases, and you can activate it up to five times in a calendar year.

Each activation costs 200 Bilt Cash. (Bilt Cash can expire, and of the $200 in Bilt Cash the Palladium gives you each year, up to $100 rolls into the following year.) Rent and mortgage do not count toward the Accelerator, since those are not everyday-spend categories on the card.

What you actually earn

Here is the simple version. Each Accelerator covers $5,000 of eligible spending at 3x instead of 2x, which is 5,000 extra points per Accelerator. Run it the full five times across the year and you earn 75,000 points instead of 50,000 on that $25,000 of spending, so 25,000 extra points for the year.

Where the Bilt Cash comes from

Each Accelerator costs 200 Bilt Cash, which is $200 in value, since $1 of Bilt Cash is $1. The good part is the Palladium hands you most of that without any effort. You get $200 in Bilt Cash automatically every year just for holding the card, which covers one Accelerator on its own, and new cardholders get $300 in Bilt Cash as a welcome bonus.

Here is the part that makes it click: each Accelerator covers $5,000 of spending, and spending that same $5,000 earns you $200 in Bilt Cash at 4%. So your everyday spending keeps refilling the Bilt Cash you need for the next one.

A few things to keep in mind

Keep track of your spending once an Accelerator is on. The bonus only applies to the next $5,000 of eligible purchases, and once you pass that, your card goes back to the normal 2x rate until you activate another one. It is worth lining up a big planned purchase with an active Accelerator so none of the window goes to waste.

Remember the two limits: each Accelerator costs 200 Bilt Cash to turn on, and you can run five per calendar year. Rent and mortgage still earn their own way, but they do not count toward the Accelerator's $5,000.
